Dark Matters | Nigrum Tenebrae

This series is an exploration of noir imagery. With a wink towards Rembrandt’s chiaroscuro rendering, I began shooting in my studio at night with a single light source, testing a range of settings to find a mood suitable to the subject [dark] matter.

As with most of my work, there are layers of meaning and tongue-in-cheek commentary laid within the narrative strata.

The cover image, A Family Portrait, is something of a kink in the path that literally propelled me to produce work within this series that is perhaps more suggestive to and uncomfortable for the viewer. The challenge will be to evoke a sensibility of bewildered repulsion tempered with sleight-of-hand humor.

Something of a Saudek-John Waters mash-up.
